I learned to swim at 31, in a loud, cold pool with someone shouting from the side. I promised myself that if I ever taught, it would feel nothing like that.
So we keep groups small, the water warm and the voices calm. Every teacher gets in, and every child moves up when they are ready, not when the term ends.
