Founder and head teacher
Nobody should learn to swim the way I did: cold, scared and shouted at from the side.
I came to swimming late. I was 31 when I finally put my face in the water, and I still remember how far away the other end looked. That feeling shapes every lesson I teach.
These days I split my week between our older children and our adult beginners. With children I keep things playful and full of praise. With adults I go slowly and explain each step first, so nothing comes as a surprise.
Away from the water I train our new teachers and look after the badge stages. I still check every badge certificate before it goes home. My favourite moment is the first time someone floats on their own and looks up, amazed.
